Yacht Photography: From large machines to very small spaces, I photograph it all.

July 28, 2022

When the opportunity arises to photograph something different, I jump to it. I love the challenge. If I photographed the same thing all the time, I would get bored and stale. By photographing in different scenarios, I can push myself.

I recently had the opportunity to photograph on a 45’ Catamaran yacht in Charleston, SC. Yacht photography is very different from the large industrial machinery I photograph for clients.

The space is small. If you have three feet to work with, you are lucky.

The ceilings are low, and the surfaces are reflective, causing light to bounce everywhere. The light is hard to control, but it's suitable for a portrait.

Using supplemental lighting is almost impossible. The boat is in constant motion. It may feel pretty stable at a dock, but you never know when another boat will pass by and create a wake.

This was my first attempt. I’m looking forward to opportunities to photograph more, perhaps larger yachts, in the future.

Found beauty in the unexpected while strolling through my neighborhood. This industrial structure stands tall against a moody sky, showcasing the raw, rugged charm of everyday scenes. Sometimes, the most striking images are right around the corner. ?
